That's why we chose to call the large farm projects we have been planning for years our "Cornerpost" Projects. With them, we intend to set a foundation of blessing for future generations that allows more nutrient rich food to be produced and enjoyed by Fed From The Farm Families!

We intend to stand against the current of decay in this world and build something good - to last! A farm, a family, and a way of life that has meaning that carries well beyond us in this moment.

On the farm, a cornerpost is the foundation for a fence. Without it, the fence will eventually and inevitably fail. The wires with slacken, the gate will sag and the animals will go on a road trip! If that happens one too many times, the farm will eventually cease to exist. 

Setting a cornerpost takes time and patience. It has to be set in just the right spot. It is hard to do, exhausting work and always takes much longer than you think it will. It also has to be of the right material. On our farm that material has historically been a very hard and durable wood we call "Osage Orange" or "Hedge"When set correctly, a solid Hedge post can stand for nearly a 100 years! 

While essential for building a fence, the cornerpost doesn't just serve an immediate need but enables the fence (and through the fence the security and longevity of the farm) to continue on for future generations.There are cornerposts still on the farm so old that we don't know who set them (and I am the third generation on the farm!). Sometimes when I see one, I imagine who must have put it up. What dreams they had. What goals they thought that new fence would help them accomplish. What struggles they faced and overcame. Beyond the curiosity, I am also thankful! The labor of those farmers I have never met still benefits the farm today generations later!

It is for this reason we have chosen to call the long term farm projects I have been sharing glimpses of over the last few months our "Cornerpost Projects."

They have taken immense amounts of planning, they will serve an immediate need in the present, and they will provide a firm base, a "Cornerpost", if you will for the coming generations on the farm - both those who steward it and those who are nourished by it!

We will continute making our deliveries after the farm store and warehouse is complete. In fact, completing them should allow us to make more deliveries and offer more farm products as we will have the space to pack them all up and get them ready for deliveries :)
