FAQs

  • Why do some of my chicken drumsticks have dark spots on them? - Great question! Since our chickens live robust lives out on pasture they actually run around (novel right :). When they get excited they flap their wings and jump. When they do this they sometimes bump their legs on things (like other chickens or trees). This gives them a bruise which doesn't hurt them but does sometimes show up when they are processed - especially when it happens a few days prior to processing. It does not hurt anything or taste any different when cooked and is completely safe to eat :) Just a normal part of enjoying real pasture raised chickens.
  • Why is there a slight red tint to the chicken? - Since our chickens live robust lives out on pasture they actually run around (novel right :). This exercise darkens the meat (even the white meat) because they have additional blood - from living healthy robust lives. When they are processed this sometimes leaves a slight red tinge to the meat. It does not hurt anything or taste any different (except for the overall way better taste of pasture raised chicken) when cooked and is completely safe to eat :) Just a normal part of enjoying real pasture raised chickens. P.S. if it bothers you - rinsing them in cold water in the sink for a few minutes will make them pale and "normal colored".
